“The Way -Just Call Me Josh” by F. Byron Smith portrays our precious Savior in a secular setting.
Flawed people accomplish God's plan. The Bible depicts lust, violence, fear, and human weaknesses in an earthy way. So does this book. This story communicates God's great love for humans in a form designed to entice people who want to read interesting stories. But they may not spend much time reading the Holy Book.
This book maintains consistency with Holy Scripture and the subject matter reverently emphasizes God’s great love for humanity.
God’s abundant love provided the impetus and purpose for this action-adventure, romantic story.
Although based upon biblical concepts, none of his books have scriptural references which slows reading.
E-books can be read with free apps for phones and computers. Smith's eBooks can be found at Barnes & Noble, Amazon, Kobo, and Lulu. Flash! This book is now available in paperback on Amazon.

Smitty's Silly Sayings is sort of a blog.
Usually, you will see excerpts from my published and unpublished books. Here's one from an unpublished book of one-act plays "Life 555 - The Advanced Course:"
Act 18 – Don’t worry about the past or future. Name ten ways to fix both.
Characters who speak: Father Jimenez and Harry Trent.
Setting: Classroom at St. Iggy’s.
Props: Five to eleven student desks, blackboard or whiteboard, erasers, chalk or markers, clock, pens, and teacher’s desk. A crucifix hangs on the wall above the teacher's desk. Each student and teacher will have a tablet, laptop, smartphone, or notebook computer to follow the script.
Narrator: (Reads history of St. Iggy’s if this is the first act of the day.) (Reads teacher’s bio and student bios of students appearing in this act if not the same characters as the previous act.)
Father Jimenez: Turn off all cell phones and we will discuss worries about the past or future.
(Several hands raised.)
Father Jimenez: Yes, Mr. Trent?
Harry Trent: I know how to fix both. If I did something bad in the past, I could apologize and fix it. If I plan for the future, I can prevent problems.
Father Jimenez: Thank you, sir. Apologizing for past misbehavior cannot undo the harm caused by your actions. You cannot undo them. If you crippled someone in anger, you will not be able to uncripple them. You should plan for the future, but most situations cannot be anticipated. Many unanticipated tragedies occur because of unintended consequences.
There is no way to fix past events. You cannot change or reverse them. You can’t change the words you said yesterday. They continue to exist in people’s minds.
God does not promise a future. All we have is now. When we are blessed with a future, events rarely occur as we expected. Hidden problems erupt when we least expect them. The most important concept is we are not guaranteed a future. Any one of us could be robbed or killed on the way home from this class.
The past cannot be changed, and you may not have a future. Therefore, the only thing you need to do is remain in God’s good graces to save your eternal soul. The choices you make today can determine your future forever in Heaven or hell. You need to make the best use of the now.
Let’s enjoy the now.
Class, close your eyes.
All of you, close your eyes now.
Listen.
Take a deep breath.
Open your mind and heart.
Wiggle your toes.
Take another deep breath.
Open your mind and heart.
Imagine you are a tourist in a Middle Eastern nation.
You are alone, sitting by a beautiful, sandy beach.
You smell the deep, blue salty water.
It’s early Spring and you are comfortable.
You are completely relaxed.
You sip and enjoy a frosty lemonade.
It is so refreshing.
You feel a soft, salty breeze from the sea.
You feel the cool surf and gritty sand between your toes.
Your mind and heart are open.
You are not afraid.
You eat a plump grape and a chocolate blintz.
You and your oversized towel lift gently from the sand.
You float skyward toward the clouds.
You enjoy this unique experience.
As you float above the clouds, the temperature remains surprisingly warm.
As you bask in warm, orange sunlight, you fall asleep on your airborne towel.
You travel even higher.
You wake up in a large room with a throne occupied by an older person.
Sitting on each side are two other smiling, amiable people.
The person on the right is dressed in radiant white clothing.
He approaches you with an outstretched hand.
You know where you are.
You are grateful and blessed to be there.
The person on the right approaches you and puts his welcoming arm around you.
You immediately feel calmer than you ever felt.
You realize that all your sins have been forgiven.
Your mind and heart are open, and you accept the wisdom from the person on the left.
You accept the bountiful love from all three.
Your open mind and heart accept grace, happiness, joy, ecstasy, and blessings.
A weight has been lifted from your shoulders.
You only need to keep your mind and heart free from sin in the current moment as you have achieved eternal bliss.
Your soul’s salvation is the only concept you need at any time.
Live in grace for now.
You can't do anything about the past, but you can ensure your future.
(Bell rings)
(Stunned students exit in silence with dazed looks on their faces.)
(Stage lights off,)
Characters who speak: Father Jimenez and Tess Theriot.
Father Jimenez: Turn off all cell phones. We don’t need any ringtone entertainment today. This is a topic that is as old as humanity itself, yet as fresh as the morning dew - “To err is easy, to forgive is godly Now, I know what you’re thinking. “Oh great, another philosophical speech.” But fear not! I promise to keep this light-hearted, maybe even a little humorous. After all, if we can’t laugh at our mistakes, what can we laugh at?
Let’s start with the first part of the phrase, “To err is easy.” And boy, isn’t that the truth? I mean, who among us hasn’t put their clothes on inside out, walked into a glass door, or, my personal favorite, texted the wrong person? I see some guilty faces out there!
And why is it so easy to err? Well, because we’re human! We’re not perfect, no matter how much we’d like to believe otherwise. We’re not machines, programmed to perform tasks flawlessly. We’re more like… well, toddlers learning to walk. We stumble, we fall, we get up, and we try again. And sometimes, we even manage to get food all over our faces in the process. But hey, that’s part of the charm, right?
Now, onto the second part of the phrase, “to forgive is godly.” This is where things get a bit tricky. Because while making mistakes is as easy as pie, forgiving those mistakes… well, that’s more like trying to bake a soufflé. It requires patience, understanding, and a whole lot of love. And let’s be honest, sometimes, it feels downright impossible.
Forgiveness isn’t just about the other person. It’s about us. It’s about letting go of the anger and the resentment that weigh us down. It’s about choosing peace over conflict, love over hate. And most importantly, it’s about recognizing that we all make mistakes. Yes, even you, Ms. Beck, with your perfect hair and your high-fashion clothes!
So, ladies and gentlemen, as we navigate through this messy, beautiful thing called life, let’s remember to be kind to ourselves and each other. Let’s remember that to err is human, and to forgive is godly. And above all, let’s remember to laugh. Because at the end of the day, life’s too short to hold grudges… or to walk around with spinach in your teeth!
When someone says something wrong that hurts you, can you forgive that individual?
Yes, Ms. Theriot (Terrio)?
Tess Theriot: It depends. Sometimes when you have a good friend, they can hurt you more than a casual acquaintance. For instance, my best friend since the first grade accused me of stealing her boyfriend. I did everything for her. I lent her money; I let her borrow my clothes, makeup, and jewelry. I even asked my parents to take her in when she and her folks were having differences. How could she do this to me, after all I did for her? No. I’ll never forgive her.
Father Jimenez: Have you tried to speak with her since she insulted you?
Tess: No way! I haven’t talked to her in three months. I’ll never talk to her again.
Father Jimenez: Do you think you are hurting her like she hurt you?
Tess: I don’t think she even cares. She wouldn’t care even if I forgave her.
Father Jimenez: Suppose I tell you that your attitude of resentment, anger, loathing, and scorn hurt you more than you are hurting her. Here’s the deal. Your hostile negative attitude causes you to lose your healthy, positive outlook on life. Worse than that, your intense negativity triggers constant fight-or-flight reactions in your mind. This frustration causes ulcers, insomnia, headaches, and high blood pressure. Negative thoughts inhibit your happiness, peace of mind, and your self-esteem.
Jesus forgave the people who were murdering Him. He set the example in the Lord’s prayer when we ask God to forgive us as we forgive others.
(The door flies open. Two men in suits barge in.)
Pierre: Interpol here! On the FLOOR! Sheik Mohammed, you ghastly, ghoulish, glob of groveling, grimy, grotesque, greasy, gorilla guts!
Roger: (Handcuffs Father Jimenez.) We got you, you contemptible terrorist (bleep)!
(The door slams open again. A man, wearing a black t-shirt with “DEA” emblazoned on the rear bursts in, followed by a dog,)
Otto: DEA! FREEZE! (Points gun at Pierre.) I said FREEZE! Hands up!
Pierre: (Raises hands.) Who in the hell are you?
Otto: I said DEA.
(Dog sniffs Mal Hart’s backpack.)
(Otto handcuffs Mal Hart.) Good dog, Socrates! You got our culprit.
Roger: (Points to Father Jimenez.) That’s our culprit.
Otto: Take a hike! (Marches Mal Hart through the door, followed by Socrates.)
Pierre: (Realizes Father Jimenez is too old to be the terrorist. He removes the handcuffs from Jimenez. He and Roger sneak out quickly.)
(Bell rings.)
